Who are you really?

Character quotes help reveal ones character which underpin the qualities that make up ones being. Character is the moral integrity that distinguishes and portrays the distinctive traits and nature of a human being. These character traits which develop have been nurtured and molded over time, through circumstances, education and life’s experiences.

One must be careful not to confuse character and reputation as reputation is merely a fraction of the embedded characteristics of a human being and represents how others perceive you to be rather than who you necessarily are.

Thus 'character is actual' and 'reputation is perception'.
Since character is embedded over time, the chances of your character changing in later life is fractional, but reputation on the other hand can be irreversibly changed at an instant. These facts are emphasized in character quotes.

Thus that to have a good character is something to strive towards on a continual basis and to have a good reputation is something to nurture on a continual basis. Character quotes will assist with this understanding.

A "No" uttered from deepest conviction is better and greater than a “Yes” merely uttered to please, or what is worse, to avoid trouble ~ Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi

A bad reputation in a woman allures like the signs of heat in a bitch ~ ldous Huxley

A big man is one who makes us feel bigger when we are with him ~ John C. Maxwell

A certain bygone philosophy - which certainly must have quite forgotten all about the real child - used to speak of the child's nature as a tabula rasa, or 'blank page,' upon which experience and training might write what they pleased. As a matter of fact, the child’s nature at birth, like that of a calf or a chick, is pretty well scribbled over by the experience of its ancestors. It is far from being blank, for as soon as the little organism comes into the world, it begins to do certain things and do them with much zeal and determination, as every one knows who knows real children ~ Edward O. Sisson

A character is like an acrostic … read it forward, backward, or across, it still spells the same thing ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

A character standard is far more important than even a gold standard. The success of all economic systems is still dependent upon both righteous leaders and righteous people. A fair reputation is a plant, delicate in its nature, and by no means rapid in its growth. It will not shoot up in a night like the gourd of the prophet; but, like that gourd, it may perish in a night ~ Jeremy Taylor

A good character is the best tombstone. Those who loved you and were helped by you will remember you when forget-me-nots have withered. Carve your name on hearts, not on marble ~ Charles Spurgeon

A good character is, in all cases, the fruit of personal exertion. It is not inherited from parents; it is not created by external advantages; it is no necessary appendage of birth, wealth, talents, or station; but it is the result of one's own endeavors , the fruit and reward of good principles manifested in a course of virtuous and honorable action ~ J. Hawes
